- Lancaster County Board of Supervisors meets Thursday, October 25 at 5:30 pm at the Lancaster County Administration Building. According to the agenda, the board will have a closed meeting at 5:30 pm and the regular meeting will follow at 7:00 pm. The regular meeting will feature presentations, public hearings, and a review/vote on legislation.

- Dr. Michael Perry, Superintendent, is delivering the state of the schools address for Westmoreland County Public Schools Thursday, October 25 at 6:00 pm at Washington & Lee High School (16380 Kings Hwy, Montross).
- Temporary library in Westmoreland County: The Cooper Branch is undergoing maintenance and thus closed until further notice. In its place is a satellite branch at Colonial Beach Baptist Church (10 Garfield Ave, Colonial Beach; in the church library) will offer limited library services. The temporary branch will be open Monday-Friday, Noon-5:00 pm. Services available are WiFi, computers, printing, holds pick up, and a selection of popular materials for check out. - Governor Northam Signs Executive Order Establishing Conservation Cabinet: On October 4, Gov. Ralph Northam established the Governor's Conservation Cabinet to focus state efforts to best "protect Virginia's vulnerable natural resources and improve environmental quality across the Commonwealth." Members are Matthew J. Strickler, Secretary of Natural Resources, Chair; Bettina Ring, Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry; Brian Ball, Secretary of Commerce and Trade; Aubrey Layne, Secretary of Finance; and Shannon Valentine, Secretary of Transportation. Atif Qarni, Secretary of Education and Dr. Daniel Carey, Secretary of Health and Human Resources will serve on the Conservation Cabinet as ex officio members.

- On September 25, Governor Northam announced more than $1 million in funding for school safety. Virginia Awards Thirty-Three Localities $1.2 Million in Grants for School Resource Officer and School Security Officer Positions explains the grant and the value and the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services provides the details of the grant awards. On the Northern Neck, Colonial Beach Police Department received $37,932.00 and Northumberland Sheriff's Office was awarded $17,929.00.
