Wash your hands!

Handwashing ― real handwashing ― should happen all the time by all of us. But we need reminders like the one from Westmoreland County Department of Emergency Services yesterday.

The emergency department reminded us on Global Handwashing Day that “washing with soap and water helps protect you, your family, and our community from the spread of germs.”

To get it right, follow these instructions:

💧 Wet, lather, scrub, rinse, and dry.

⏱️ Scrub for at least 20 seconds, including the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails.

Remember to wash:

🍎 Before eating and before, during, and after preparing food.

🚻 After using the bathroom.

🤧 After coughing, sneezing, or blowing your nose.

No soap and water nearby? Use hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol.

Help children build healthy habits by showing them how—and leading by example. 💙

And while you are doing the right thing, dry your hands in a way that is less harmful to the earth, with one paper towel. Watch below and learn.
