Well water testing kits available through VCE
Registration for the Virginia Cooperative Extension Northumberland Drinking Water Clinic for residents with private water systems (wells, springs, and cisterns) is now open. Testing takes place in mid-October.
Each test costs $70 and is comparable to testing in the private market, typically costing $300. For those who are not able to afford the $70, VCE has financial assistance available. Email or call (540) 231-9058 for information.
Hazardous Household Waste Collection, Sat., Oct. 24
The Northumberland County Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics collection event takes place Saturday, October 24, 8:00 am to Noon at Northumberland County Public Schools (Rte 260, Heathsville, in the Middle School bus parking lot). The event is for Northumberland County residents and property owners.

Accepted items: Spent fluorescent bulbs, pesticides, anti-freeze, rechargeable batteries, cleaners, oil-based paint/stain, old/contaminated fuels/petroleum products, household chemicals (cleaners), computers and laptops, mainframes, peripherals, monitors, flat screens, telephones, cell phones, telephone systems, fax machines, copiers, printers, televisions, electronic circuit boards and components, stereo equipment, games, etc.
Items not accepted: Radioactive items, smoke detectors, medical waste, ammo/explosives.
