The Department of Wildlife Resources needs help from the public to better understand the wild turkey population across Virginia. The annual Turkey Summer Sighting Survey runs through August 31 so you have plenty of time to play this game of I Spy Wild Turkeys. (DWR says the survey is also known as the brood survey ― bor-ing!)
DWR explains the survey “has been ongoing in Virginia since the early 2000s and is one of our best indicators of annual turkey reproduction. . . By incorporating observations from the public, we can expand our understanding of statewide turkey populations.”
Take pictures from wherever you are: Car, home, kayak or canoe, truck, farm equipment. . . Just be safe. Then upload the photo(s) and provide a bit of information (name, county where the turkeys were gobbling, the date, the number of turkeys, and any other info you would like to share).
Alternatively, submit a sighting via survey. Name and location are required.
