The Northumberland County Department of Emergency Services is holding its first EMT basic class starting in September and they are encouraging those interested in volunteering or working for the county to take the class. Continue reading for the details. (Originally posted on FB.)

🚑 Northumberland County Department of Emergency Services is excited to announce our inaugural EMT-Basic Class! 🚑

Have you ever considered serving your community as an EMT or starting a career in Emergency Medical Services? This is your opportunity to gain the training, certifications, and hands-on experience needed to make a difference when it matters most.

📅 Class Dates: September 8, 2026 through January 16, 2027 (Class dates may be adjusted due to EVOC requirements)

📍 Location: Northumberland County Sheriff's Office, 195 Judicial Place, Heathsville

⏰ Schedule: Tuesdays & Thursdays, 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, plus two Saturdays per month

Students will earn numerous certifications, including:

✅ AHA BLS CPR

✅ FEMA IS-5, IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, IS-800, and Q0890

✅ Stop the Bleed

✅ TIMS

✅ EVOC 1, 2, & 3

✅ Virginia EMT-Basic and NREMT EMT-Basic certifications

We currently have:

🔹 Four student slots available for community members interested in volunteering with one of Northumberland County's volunteer rescue squads.

🔹 Two student slots available for individuals interested in pursuing full-time employment with the Northumberland County Department of Emergency Services, with an anticipated employment start date of October 1, 2026.

Please note that full-time positions are contingent upon anticipated vacancies, and the exact number of available positions may vary based on departmental staffing needs.
