October is really not that far away, especially when planning one or more special events to celebrate Virginia Wine Month.
Calling organizations and businesses
Here are a few ideas that would add variety to the typical kind of winery, festival, or community event on the NNK:
- Harvest Table for several hundred (or more!) guests.
- Day into Night Soiree featuring local wine and food, bands, and twinkly lights.
- Brunch by the Bay focused on pairing local wines with seafood and food harvested locally. This could involve restaurants, farmers, non-restaurant foodies, and the like.
A non-event idea is to create a coloring book for adults. Include all the wineries on the Northern Neck. Each winery could have a two-page spread with a feature image and the facing page with a short narrative surrounded by doodles.
Individuals, couples, families, groups
People, you, too, can plan for Virginia Wine Month. For example, what about having a harvest party at home? Virginia Wine has info (PDF) that will point you in the right direction. Imagine doing a dessert-focused get-together with sweets from Fawns Cafe (Reedville), a charcuterie board or crudites tray from Garlands Market & Deli (Village), a cheese platter and/or sandwiches by Circa 1892 (Colonial Beach), or parmesan crab dip and Bread and/or a Grazing Spread from Wild Olive & Fig (King George).
Don’t forget to order invitations. My default is Papeterie in Kilmarnock given how close I live. But there are other options. Where would you order invitations? Leave a comment on FB.
