DCR is planning a future trails summit and they want input from trail organizations

The Northern Neck has its fair share of trails: Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail, Northern Neck National Heritage Area, TriWay Trail, and numerous water trails among others.

The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation is having a trails summit and is seeking input from trails organizations about what the event should offer. Take the Virginia Trails Summit Questionnaire by July 17.

The survey is no muss no fuss. Here’s some of what you will find in this short survey:

Virginia DCR is proposing to create an annual meeting of trail group representatives from around the Commonwealth. This meeting is being planned as a full day of education sessions with a break for lunch and a plenary speaker. The date of the first summit will most likely be in November of 2027 but that may change. The location has yet to be determined and is one of the questions below. We want this event to meet the needs of trail enthusiasts. At this time, we are seeking your input, as you have expressed an interest in trails in the past through the State Trails Advisory Committee. Your ideas are important to us. Please take a few minutes to answer the questions below to help us plan this new event. All questions are optional and your information will not be shared with anyone. If you have any questions, please send an email to PlanningResources@dcr.virginia.gov and put "Summit Survey" in the topic. When you submit this form, it will not automatically collect your details like name and email address unless you provide it yourself.

  • How would a trails summit meeting best meet your needs and those of your organization?
  • What are the main challenges that your trail organization faces?
  • Is a statewide trail summit something you would attend?
  • The format being planned as of now is a one day event with a plenary session and possible concurrent sessions. If you would like to see something different please let us know what type of format you would prefer.

Share this input opportunity with those who work or volunteer at trails organizations. The Northern Neck should have its views known.
