Presentations from the GO Virginia Region 6 3rd Annual Economic Development Summit are online.
Perhaps the most interesting presentation was made in the breakout session Promoting Careers in Aquaculture. There’s From first slurps to future careers at Oyster Day; SPAT 2025 NN video, below; and the Aquaculture in the Classroom | AIE Webinar, below, featuring two NHS students.
The SPAT 2025 NN video, below, comes with the following description:
Promoting Careers in Aquaculture is a career training program run by a collaboration of Virginia Tech CECE and the Chesapeake Bay Governor’s School, supported by local school divisions and shellfish industry partners. The program is for high school juniors interested in shellfish aquaculture. In addition, local teachers come to the program to find new ways to bring aquaculture into their classrooms. This video features students and teachers from the 2025 Northern Neck class held at Rappahannock Community College in Warsaw, VA, with field trip visits to Healthy Harvest Fresh, Little Wicomico Oyster Company, and Oyster Seed Holdings oyster hatchery.
