Community resources

(Crowdsourced) Outreach on the NNK

If you are a business, community organization, or local government, you are likely always looking to share information, expand your reach, educate more people, get more business, and expand your base of services.

If you are an individual, community organization, business, or elected/appointed official, you may be looking for information: Community events, small and local businesses, local news and information, community wants and needs, and more.

(Crowdsourced) Outreach on the NNK can help sharers and seekers. This online resource is free to use no matter where you are on the Northern Neck, no matter the type of organization you are. The spreadsheet contains information on the following outreach and engagement sources, outlets, and places: Social media, media, POAs, worship, organizations, electeds/appointeds, and physical locations. Start with the “Welcome & Instructions” sheet found at the far left at the bottom; it will walk you through the best way to use the information for outreach. Hint: Download the file.

(Crowdsourced) Outreach on the NNK is not perfect but it is useful. And, it is open for edits. At the moment, the major gaps are POAs (homeowners associations and the like) and religious institutions. If you are involved with either/both, please check the file and add/edit. It is much appreciated.

And speaking of checking and editing, I updated the electeds/appointeds section yesterday. Before the edits, members of the Northumberland County Board of Supervisors were listed. I decided to replace the list of individual members with links to websites. While accessing these officials now requires an additional click, this information is far easier to maintain. And therefore more useful.

Free food and meals

Free food on the NNK was created in November 2025 to map free food sources on the Northern Neck. People can use it to find food and to donate food/cash to food pantries, meal providers, etc. To add free meals or food distribution programs to the map, email Susie Cambria. (NOTE: The map is only fully accessible in Chrome.)

The page Free food and meals was also created in November 2025 as home to the Freed food on the NNK map and information about free and low-cost/affordable meals. To add free community low-cost/affordable meals events to the page, email Susie Cambria with all the details. Please provide information at least one week in advance. Information will be shared on the blog and via the blog’s Facebook page.

The page is updated as needed.
