2026 mileage reimbursement rates per the IRS

Car, 72.5¢/mile driven for business use, 20.5¢/mile driven for medical services and active military, and 14¢/mile driven in service of charitable organizations

The IRS has announced mileage rates for 2026; read IRS sets 2026 business standard mileage rate at 72.5 cents per mile, up 2.5 cents for all the deets.

The standard mileage rates apply “to the use of a car, van, pickup or panel truck.” Further, “the rates apply to fully-electric and hybrid automobiles, as well as gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles.” Rates starting January 1, 2026:

  • 72.5¢/mile for business use
  • 14¢/mile for service to nonprofit (charitable in IRS lingo) organizations
  • 20.5¢/mile for medical purposes
  • 20.5¢/mile for “certain active-duty members of the Armed Forces (and now certain members of the intelligence community)”
