The Northern Neck Tourism Commission will gather public input on the development of the Northern Neck National Heritage Area (NNNHA) Management Plan Tuesday, October 29, 1:00 - 5:00 pm at Lancaster Community Library (16 Town Centre Dr, Kilmarnock; in the upstairs meeting room). The public is encouraged to participate.

At the Northern Neck National Heritage Area Regional Exchange, the public will participated in facilitated discussions on six topics:

  • Telling the Story: Interpretation and Education
  • Enhancing Our Economy: Heritage Tourism and Economic Development
  • Preserving What Matters: Historic Preservation
  • Our Amazing Outdoors: Natural Resource Conservation and Recreation
  • Cultural Conversation: Living Traditions
  • Promoting the Past: Marketing Northern Neck Heritage

Following the event, Northern Neck Tourism Commission consultants will refine the public input “into strategies to be considered for inclusion in the plan.” (Source: Press release, below.)

Also, according to the release,

The management plan is being developed by a team led by Point Heritage Development Consulting, LLC (PointHDC), which includes some of the country’s top experts in working with National Heritage Areas. The consultant team is working with the Northern Neck Tourism Commission, NNPDC staff, and the public to develop the plan which will be approved by the National Park Service and the Secretary of the Interior. Once approved, the Northern Neck National Heritage Area will be eligible to receive federal funds to support implementation of programs and projects included in the management plan.

Quilting in red, white, and blue: Celebrating Our Independence Quilt Show, July 1-7

Historic Christ Church & Museum and Sewlovelee are featuring the art of NNK quilters July 1-7 at the Celebrating Our Independence Quilt Show . This joint celebration combines art and history. Quilters are asked to exhibit their red, white, and blue quilts which tell the stories of our independence from Britain, our history since the American Revolution, and the future of the United States. The quilts will also serve as the backdrop of Christ Church's annual reading of the Declaration of Independence. The reading is a patriotic celebration and is in partnership with the Cobbs Hall Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Richard Henry Lee Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.
