Learn more about and contribute to Virginia Coastal Resilience Master Plan, Phase 2

The Department of Conservation and Recreation is continuing its work to protect people, places, and things via the 2024 Virginia Coastal Resilience Master Plan, Phase 2 (CRMP Phase II). According to DCR,

The Coastal Resilience Master Plan contains an analysis of the threat of increasing flooding in Virginia’s coastal region due to sea level rise and changing precipitation patterns. It serves as a location-specific, long-range plan to guide activities to mitigate severe and repetitive flooding in Virginia's coastal region.

Phase II of the Coastal Resilience Master Plan (CRMP) will build on the work completed in the 2021 Phase I plan. It is currently under development and will be released in December 2024.

An essential element of the Phase II prep is citizen engagement and DCR has a number of opportunities for the public to learn and contribute.

  • Two online webinars about flood risk and resilience: Thursday, September 19, 6:00-7:00 pm and Tuesday, September 24, Noon-1 pm. Register. Speakers will make a presentation and then open it up for a question and answer session. DCR will make a recording available for those unable to attend.
  • Northern Neck community meeting, Monday, September 23, 6:00-8:00 pm at Rappahannock Community College (52 Campus Dr, Warsaw; Warsaw Lecture Hall). RSVP on Facebook
  • Flood Story survey: Tell DCR about flooding you've experienced. They ask about the type, for example if it's rain related, the frequency, and what the flooding impacts, such as closing roads.
