It’s National Hurricane Preparedness Week

Hurricane season starts one month from today and the Virginia Department of Emergency Management is all about preparedness this week. You don’t have to dot every I and cross every T this week, but you should have a plan to work through the preparedness steps, including creating a plan and building a kit, over the next month or so.

The key elements of preparedness are to make a plan, build a kit, and know your (evacuation) zone.

For those who want to dive into the details of planning, preparedness, and evacuation, VDEM has updated the Virginia Hurricane Evacuation Guide and the Virginia Hurricane Preparedness Inland Impacts Guide.
