Nominate lakes, streams, and rivers of Virginia for DEQ water quality monitoring

The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality is asking the public to nomimate water bodies for water quality monitoring. Nominations are due April 30.

According to the public notice, “Every year, DEQ staff from the agency’s six regional offices collect water samples for testing from more than 1,500 locations across the commonwealth. The agency’s various monitoring activities for each calendar year are outlined in the annual statewide MonPlan.” The plan details monitoring work including the locations and testing details.

By next week, DEQ will have launched an interactive map of the 2023 monitoring plan stations. In the meantime, here's a map we created using the same data.
