Feb 17-20: The Great Backyard Bird Count

Spend time in your favorite places watching birds–then tell us about them! In as little as 15 minutes notice the birds around you. Identify them, count them, and submit them to help scientists better understand and protect birds around the world. (Great Backyard Bird Count)

It’s time for the annual Great Backyard Bird Count, a nationwide citizen science project focused on monitoring species health and location.

Virginia Parks is encouraging people to count birds in state parks (see Count Birds for Science: The Great Backyard Bird Count). But if it is easier to stay at home, that works!

The Great Backyard Bird Count has several resources to get volunteers up to speed. These include the Get Ready for the Great Backyard Bird Count: Q&A Webinar, Wednesday, February 15 and detailed steps to participate.
