The Virginia Department of Forestry is again seeking donations of acorns from 11 oak species and nuts black walnut trees and Chinese chestnut trees. The deadline is October 14.
VDOF staff plant the acorns and nuts at the Augusta Nursery. Seedlings are later sold to Virginia landowners, typically to reforest open lands.
