- Lancaster County Public Schools has published the SY 2018-2019 Lancaster Middle School supply list (Word). And LMS is asking for donations to classrooms:
- Packs of pencils (Students are always in need of replacement pencils throughout the year!)
- Disinfectant (Clorox) wipes
- Bottle of hand sanitizer
- Pencil top erasers
- Highlighters
- Dry erase markers
- Zipper seal baggies (gallon, quart or sandwich size)

- The Westmoreland County Sheriff's Office has been awarded two grants—$26,285.00 and $26,286.00—by the Department of Criminal Justice Services as part of the state department's School Resource Officer/School Security Officer Grant Program. DCJS awarded a total of 38 grants totaling $1,265,936.00. - The Department of Environmental Quality has published the draft of the Rappahannock River and tributaries TMDL bacteria report—Bacteria Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL)Development for the Rappahannock River and Tributaries Located in Caroline, Essex, King George, Richmond, and Westmoreland Counties Virginia—and is holding a public meeting to discuss the report and also host a citizen monitoring training for anyone interested. The meeting/training will take place Wednesday, June 20 at 5:30 pm at Westmoreland Fire Department (52 Rectory Rd, Montross).
The 30-day public comment period on the draft report starts June 20 and ends July 21. DEQ will edit the report at the conclusion of the public comment period.Written comments will be accepted through July 20, 2018 and should include the name, address, and telephone number of the person submitting the comments. - Lancaster, Northumberland, Richmond, and Westmoreland counties were awarded a GO Virginia (Growth and Opportunity for Virginia) grant of $130,000 to establish a Welder Training Project. According to the gov's press release Governor Northam Announces Over $579,000 in GO Virginia Grants,
This project will establish a new welding training facility to offer daytime courses through Rappahannock Community College (RCC) to train adult welders for employment at local businesses. RCC currently offers evening welding courses at the Northern Neck Technical Center, which are at capacity. GO Virginia funds will be utilized by RCC to establish a new satellite training facility that will allow RCC to train additional cohorts with more students per cohort.
