Lancaster County

  • The Lancaster County Board of Supervisors is holding a work session on the proposed FY 2019 Lancaster County operating budget Tuesday, March 13 at 5:30 pm at the Lancaster County Administration Building (8311 Mary Ball Rd, Lancaster, in the Board Meeting Room). Department heads and organizations requesting funding are not required to attend this initial budget work session; future budget work sessions will be scheduled to receive comments from those requesting funding. The session is open to the public.

  • The Lancaster County Community Emergency Response Team is holding the Community Animal Response Team - Module 1A training Saturday, April 14 from 6:30-8:00 pm in Lancaster. Attendees will discuss the types of disasters which could occur in Lancaster County and the ways the disasters would affect animals; learn ways to reduce the impact of disasters; understand what should happen to protect pets before, during, and after a disaster; learn how to protect farm animals; and more.

  • Foundations of Advocacy: Providing Trauma-Informed Services to Survivors of Sexual Violence and Intimate Partner Violence, a free training by The Haven for volunteers and those in the community who are interested. Attendees will learn about the types of dementia, pros and cons of various living environments, the stages of dementia and healthy living, and treatment options. Reservations are required and space is limited.
  • Riverside Tappahannock - Northern Neck is holding a job fair at and for The Orchard (20 Delfae Dr, Warsaw) Tuesday, March 13, 4:00-6:00 pm. You can register in advance or walk-in.

  • Riverside Tappahannock - Northern Neck is sponsoring the event Get to Know Your Doctors Tuesday, March 13 from 5:30-7:00 pm at Lancaster Public Library (16 Town Centre Dr, Kilmarnock). No appointments are necessary to meet docs in the many specialties offered at the hospital. In addition, there will be door prizes (registration is required for door prize entry) and food and drinks catered by the Car Wash Cafe.

    The Northumberland Department of Social Services will be hosting a free community resource fair on Saturday, May 5th at the Callao Rescue Squad Building from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Representatives from numerous organizations will participate to provide information on the resources they offer. There will be activities for children, including a bounce house and face painting.   • Anne Wright, assistant professor of biology at Virginia Commonwealth University, will be discussing vernal pools during the Northern Neck Chapter of the Virginia Native Plant Society's event Vernal Pools - Fragile and Threatened Season Wetlands Thursday, March 15 at Noon. Each session consists of a grab-bag of quick mini presentations by local professionals focused on senior health and wellbeing.
