Lancaster County

  • Lancaster County real estate reassessment visits begin Monday, January 15 according to the press release from Wampler-Eanes Appraisal Group, Ltd. (PDF).
  • The Lancaster County Board of Supervisors is holding a special meeting Thursday, January 11 at 6:00 pm in the Lancaster County Administration Building (8311 Mary Ball Rd, Lancaster, in the Board Meeting Room) to tend to 2018 organizational matters and to hold a closed session to consider acquiring real property.
  • The Kilmarnock Planning Commission's Monday, January 8 meeting has been cancelled.
  • The public is invited to attend Kilmarnock Town Council committee meetings. The meetings will be held Thursday, January 11 at the Town Hall. Deets below and in January 2018 TOWN MEETINGS (PDF).

  • The Kilmarnock Town Council will hold its regular monthly meeting Monday, January 22 at 7:00 pm at Town Hall.
  • The Irvington Town Council is meeting Thursday, January 11 from 6:30-7:30 pm at the Town Office (235 Steamboat Rd, Irvington).
  • The Irvington Planning Commission will meet Tuesday, February 6, 6:30-7:30 pm at the Town Office (235 Steamboat Rd, Irvington).
  • Lancaster County Public Schools has numerous job openings, including Lancaster High School Band Director, posted January 3, 2018; Girls' Head Soccer Coach at Lancaster High School, posted December 7, 2017; and Boys' Head Soccer Coach at Lancaster High School, posted December 7, 2017.
  • RCC and all off-site campuses are closed Monday, January 8.

Northumberland County

  • The Northumberland County Board of Supervisors approved a sewer rate increase for Reedville (Reedville, Blackberry, and Twin Harbors), Fleeton, and Callao at their December 14 meeting. The rate increase went into effect January 1, 2018. Read the amended ordinance (PDF).
  • The Northumberland County Wetlands Board regular monthly meeting will be held Tuesday, January 9 at 7:00 pm in the Old Courthouse (Heathsville, in the Board of Supervisors Room). There are seven items on the January 9 agenda (PDF).
  • The Northumberland County Board of Supervisors will meet for a regular meeting Thursday, January 11 at 5:00 pm at the New Courts Building (220 Judicial Pl, Heathsville). The agenda (PDF) includes organizing the board; reports from VDOT, Northumberland County Public Schools, Virginia Department of Health, and various items regarding operations of the county. The board packet should be posted on the supes web page closer to the meeting. Two public hearings will follow the supes' meeting at 7:00 pm.
    1. Request for consideration of granting a lease agreement to The Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, for the purpose of maintaining an overflow parking area at Shell Landing owned by the Northumberland County Board of Supervisors located at the end of Shell Landing Road.
    2. Amendment to the Zoning Ordinance to define an Electric Substation and to allow the usage of an Electric Substation in various zoning districts.
  • The Northumberland County Board of Supervisors February meeting will be held Thursday, February 8 at 5:00 pm at the New Courts Building (220 Judicial Pl, Heathsville).
  • The Northumberland County Planning Commission will meet Thursday, January 18 at 7:00 pm at the New Courts Building (220 Judicial Pl, Heathsville).
  • The Northumberland Public Library Board of Trustees will meet Wednesday, January 10, 4:30-6:30 pm at the library (7204 Northumberland Hwy, Heathsville).
  • The Northumberland Public Library will be closed Monday, January 15.
  • The Northumberland County School Board will meet Monday, January 8, 6:00-9:00 pm at Northumberland High School (201 Academic Ln, Heathsville, in the Auditorium). The agenda includes: board organization, various presentations, review of financials, public comments, superintendent's report, board member comments, and a closed session.
  • Northumberland County Public Schools has a number of vacancies including two coaching positions. Learn more and apply.

Richmond County

  • The Richmond County Planning Commission's Monday, January 8 meeting has been cancelled.
  • Richmond County offices will be closed Friday, January 12 and Monday, January 15.
  • The Richmond County Board of Supervisors will meet Thursday, January 11 at 9:00 am and again at 7:00 pm for a public hearing. The meeting takes place at the county building (101 Court Circle, Warsaw). Review the January 11 board packet (PDF) for both parts of the meeting; the public hearing information starts on page 30. At the public hearing, the board will consider the planning staff recommendation to rezone approximately 2.4 acres in Farnham from agriculture, general to business, general to allow for the development of a Dollar General store.
  • The Richmond County Community Policy Management Team will meet Monday, January 22 at 1:00 pm at the Richmond County Department of Social Services (5579 Richmond Rd, Warsaw). The public is invited to attend.
  • The Richmond County Department of Social Services board meets Tuesday, January 16 at 5:00 pm at RCDSS (5579 Richmond Rd, Warsaw, in the meeting room). The public is urged to attend.
  • Richmond County Sheriff's Office's Concealed Handgun Permit Program session takes place Saturday, January 20 from 10:00 am - 12:30 pm at the sheriff's office (106 Wallace St, Warsaw). The event is free but space is limited.
  • The Richmond County Planning Commission's Monday, February 5, 7:00 pm meeting will take place at the county building (101 Court Circle, Warsaw).
  • The Richmond County School Board will meet Tuesday, January 9 at 10:00 am at the school board office (92 Walnut St, Warsaw). The agenda includes: financial review and decision-making, public comments, old and new business (including a proposal to hire an athletic trainer), a report on teacher recruitment, legislative update, and various reports.
  • The town of Warsaw is seeking bids for the Shopping Center Demolition Project. Sealed bids are due Wednesday, January 24 at 2:00 pm.
  • RCC and all off site campuses are closed Monday, January 8.
  • Richmond County Public Library has different hours during the week of January 8. Hours will be: closed Monday, january 8 (weather closure); Wednesday, January 10, 8:30 am - 8:00 pm; and Saturday, January 13 hours will be 10:00 am - 2:00 pm. Other hours are regular ones: Monday–Thursday 8:30 am – 5:00 pm and Friday, 9:00 am – 3:00 pm. Regular hours resume Monday, January 15.
  • The Richmond County Public Library Board of Trustees meeting is Tuesday, January 9, 4:00-5:00 pm at the library (Rappahannock Community College, 52 Campus Dr, Warsaw). The meeting is open to the public. The January 9 Richmond County Public Library Board of Trustees meeting has been cancelled.   • The Westmoreland County Wetlands Board is scheduled (PDF) to meet Monday, January 22 at 1:30 pm at the George D. English, Sr. Memorial Building (111 Polk St, Montross).
  • The Westmoreland County Board of Zoning Appeals is scheduled (PDF) to meet Monday, January 22 at 9:00 am at the George D. English, Sr. Memorial Building (111 Polk St, Montross).

  • The Rappahannock United Way is holding Free Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Clinics to help people who made under $66,000 in 2017. The clinics take place at CRRL's Cooper branch (20 Washington Ave, Colonial Beach) Tuesday, January 30, 1:00-5:00 pm and Tuesday, February 6, 1:00-5:00 pm. Appointments are required.   • The Westmoreland County School Board meeting scheduled for Monday, January 8 is being postponed. There's no new date yet. But here's the agenda for the meeting.
  • Westmoreland County Public Schools has numerous job openings including Spanish teacher, elementary teacher, and a math specialist.
  • The Colonial Beach School Board is scheduled (PDF) to meet Wednesday, January 10 at 5:30 pm at the Town Center (315 Douglas Ave, Colonial Beach).
  • The Westmoreland County School Board will hold budget work sessions Tuesday, February 6 at 5:00 pm and Monday, February 26 at 3:00 pm according to the (postponed) January 8 board agenda.
  • Westmoreland County Public Schools are closed Monday, January 8 for all students and staff.
