Lancaster County

  • The Lancaster County Board of Supervisors' regular meeting takes place Thursday, October 26 at 7:00 pm at the Lancaster County Administration Building (8311 Mary Ball Road, Lancaster, Board of Supervisors Meeting Room). The agenda includes a public input session, presentations including from the Virginia Department of Transportation, public hearings (zoning and capital improvement budget), review of finances, and regular business.
  • Edison Research is hiring a Lancaster County Vote Reporter for the Virginia General Election. More information in the position description flyer (PDF).
  • The Irvington Town Council meeting will be held Thursday, November 9 from 6:30 - 7:30 pm at the Town Office (235 Steamboat Rd, Irvington).

Northumberland County


Richmond County

  • The Richmond County Department of Emergency Services has launched the Auxiliary Program, a way for county residents to give back. Those interested in emergency medicine are encouraged to join the program. First up will be an EMT basic class. Email Capt. Mitch Paulette for more information.

    Richmond County is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Planner. This position is responsible for administration and enforcement of all Richmond County land development ordinances including but not limited to zoning, subdivision erosion/sediment control, and Bay Act Regulations. The position will serve as staff to the Richmond County Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals. The successful candidate for the position should have, at a minimum, a bachelor's degree in planning, public administration, related fields or be able to demonstrate equivalent qualifications. Local government experience and/or knowledge in planning, land use and zoning is preferred. Experience in the fields of grant writing, grant administration, economic development, plan review, information technology, policy implementation, code enforcement and comprehensive planning will be considered. Works under the supervision of the Director of Code Administration. Successful applicant must be highly organized, possess excellent written/verbal skills, and be able to demonstrate a level of computer competence (including knowledge of GIS) to maintain office production and permitting activities. Salary range is $28,000 - $35,000 based on qualifications and experience. Excellent benefits including health insurance, life insurance, and retirement program. Quilting in red, white, and blue: Celebrating Our Independence Quilt Show, July 1-7

Historic Christ Church & Museum and Sewlovelee are featuring the art of NNK quilters July 1-7 at the Celebrating Our Independence Quilt Show . This joint celebration combines art and history. Quilters are asked to exhibit their red, white, and blue quilts which tell the stories of our independence from Britain, our history since the American Revolution, and the future of the United States. The quilts will also serve as the backdrop of Christ Church's annual reading of the Declaration of Independence. The reading is a patriotic celebration and is in partnership with the Cobbs Hall Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Richard Henry Lee Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. The blue crab population has declined 25% according to latest dredge survey results

The Virginia Marine Resource Commission (VMRC) has announced the 25% decline of the blue crab population between 2024 and 2025. The Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) calls the results a “distressing low.” Many in the Bay watershed would likely agree with CBF’s reaction. Not two months ago, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation released the results of the IPSOS poll of 2,000 people living across the Chesapeake Bay watershed―DC, MD, PA, and VA―which found that the Bay animal most in need of protection was the blue crab (70%). Other top animals identified were bald eagle (68%), oyster (49%), and striped bass (36%).
