Lancaster County

  • There will be a special election for a seat on the Town Council Tuesday, November 17 in White Stone. The vacancy is the result of the death of council member Joe Sliakis. Those interested in running and serving the remaining term for the vacant seat and to serve the remaining — ending July 1, 2018 — must file by Friday, August 18.   • The White Stone Business Association (WSBA) meets Thursday, September 7 at 5:30 pm at the Town Hall (433 Rappahannock Dr, White Stone). The association meets the first Thursday at 5:30 pm.
  • The Lancaster School Board will hold a special meeting Tuesday, August 8 at 6:00 pm at Lancaster County Schools Annex (235 School St, Kilmarnock). The purpose of the meeting is to discuss school improvements.
  • The Lancaster School Board will meet Tuesday, August 8 at 6:30 pm at Lancaster County Schools Annex (235 School St, Kilmarnock) for its regular meeting. The board will hold the second reading on Virginia School Board Association policy updates (PDF) and take action on the Unpaid Meal Charge Policy (PDF). The board will also hold a closed session to consider a personnel matter and a student matter.

  • The Lancaster County Wetlands Board will meet Thursday, August 17 at 9:30 am in the Board of Supervisors Meeting Room in the Lancaster County Administration Building (8311 Mary Ball Rd, Lancaster). There are six items on the agenda.

Northumberland County

  • Cherie Carl is the new Northumberland Public Library director. The library board approved Carl in late July. Read more in Cherie Carl named Library Director.
  • It's Library Amnesty Week (actually two weeks) at Northumberland Public Library (7204 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville). From Monday, August 7 to Saturday, August 19, those who owe fines will have their fines forgiven when they return the overdue materials with one food item (canned or other nonperishable).
  • The Northumberland County Board of Supervisors will meet Thursday, August 10 at 5:00 pm in the Northumberland County Courts Building (39 Judicial Pl, Heathsville). Public hearings takes place at 7:00 pm.
  • The Northumberland County Public Schools School Board regular meeting will be held Monday, August 14 at 6:00 pm at the school board office (2172 Northumberland Highway, Lottsburg).
  • Northumberland County Public Schools' have made a personnel announcement. Included are new teachers and staff and a principal.

Richmond County

  • The Richmond County school board will meet Wednesday, August 9 at 10:00 am at the school board office (92 Walnut St, Warsaw).
  • The Richmond County Planning Commission has cancelled its Monday, August 7 meeting.
  • The Richmond County Board of Supervisors will meet Thursday, August 10 at 9:00 am at the county building (101 Court Circle, Warsaw). Read the meeting packet (PDF).
  • The Warsaw Town Council will meet Thursday, August 10 at 7:00 pm in the Town Office (78 Belle Ville Ln, Warsaw).

Westmoreland County

  • The Westmoreland County Board of Supervisors will meet Monday, August 14 at 6:00 pm at the George D. English, Sr. Memorial Building (111 Polk St, Montross).
  • The Westmoreland County Wetlands Board will meet Monday, August 21 at 1:30 pm at the George D. English, Sr. Memorial Building (111 Polk St, Montross). The agenda (PDF) consists of one case:

  • The Westmoreland County School Board has two upcoming meetings: Tuesday, August 15 at 5:00 pm for a work session and Monday, August 21 at 6:00 pm for a regular meeting. The meetings take place at Westmoreland County Schools office (141 Opal Ln, Montross).
  • The Town of Montross is updating its comp plan and is looking for ideas about the future of the town. Residents and stakeholders are being encouraged to take the Montross Survey 2017.
    DEADLINE to submit survey: 08/31/17. The Town of Montross is updating its Comprehensive Plan, which is normally updated every five years. Our last Comprehensive Plan was completed in 2007. Updates, until now, were postponed until our Montross Revitalization project was completed in 2016. Please help guide the future of Montross by completing this survey as accurately as you can while keeping in mind “What should Montross look like over the next 10 to 20 years?” Survey results will be available through several public hearings that will be held over the next few months. This Survey is also available as a printed form at Town Hall and area businesses, and at wwwVisitMontross.com.
