- Lancaster officials anticipate broadband hopes will improve

- The Rappahannock Community College Environmental Sustainability Committee and Math and Science Club will be holding the seminar "Potable Water in the Northern Neck" Wednesday, August 30, 12:25 to 1:25 pm at the Warsaw (52 Campus Drr, Warsaw) and Glenns campusus. The invited speaker is Dr. Lynton Stuart Land. Dr. Land will present on the issue of potable water in the Northern Neck, including the unsustainable pumping in the region. Dr. Stewart is a member of the Northumberland Association for Progressive Stewardship (NAPS). The event will represent the first collaboration between RCC's Environmental and Sustainability Committee and NAPS. - TMDL meeting in Westmoreland County August 31: The Department of Environmental Quality is holding a public meeting Thursday, August 31 at 1:00 pm at Westmoreland Berry Farm (1235 Berry Farm Ln, Colonial Beach) so DEQ and its contractor, Virginia Tech Biological Systems Engineering, can present a draft bacteria source assessment as part of Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) development for tributaries along the Rappahannock River located in Essex, Westmoreland, Richmond, Caroline, and King George Counties. This is an opportunity for local stakeholders to provide feedback on estimated numbers for potential bacteria sources within the watersheds.
