Lancaster County

  • The Lancaster County Department of Emergency Services is holding a public meeting Wednesday, June 14 at 6:30 pm at the County Administration Building (8311 Mary Ball Rd, Lancaster; Board Meeting Room). According to the announcement, the purpose of the meeting is
    to review and discuss the proposed Emergency Operations Center and Emergency Medical Services Facility.

    The meeting will include presentations by Emergency Services staff and Guernsey Tingle Architects, the project architect, to discuss the need for such a facility, review facility options and design criteria for the proposed facility. Following the presentations, a public question and answer session will be held.
  • The Irvington Planning Commission will meet Tuesday, June 6, 2017 from 6:30-7:30 pm at the Town Office (235 Steamboat Rd). Call (804) 438-6230 for more information.
  • The Irvington Town Council is holding a public hearing Thursday, June 8, 2017 at 6:30 pm at the Town Office (235 Steamboat Rd) to hear comments about the proposed FY 2018 budget. The budget is available for review in the Town Office.

Northumberland County

  • The Coast Guard is proposing a number of changes to navigational aids in the Great Wicomico River. According to the notice Proposal to change Navigational aid markings in the Great Wicomico River (PDF), "These changes will allow the waterway users to better identify their location while navigating this waterway thus providing a safer transit."
  • The Northumberland County Board of Supervisors June 8 meeting agenda is online (PDF). Items include reports from Northumberland County Schools and the county administrator. Three public hearings are planned: two carry-overs and consideration of a VDOT plan.
  • The Northumberland County Northumberland Emergency Services is accepting applications for full-time and part-time ALS providers (Intermediate and Paramedic) and part-time BLS (EMT and AEMT) positions. More information and links are on the county homepage.

Richmond County

  • The Richmond County Planning Commission meeting scheduled for Monday, June 5, 2017 at 7:00 pm has been cancelled.
  • On June 1, Rappahannock Community College announced a tuition increase: RCC Tuition to Increase $4 Per Credit Hour for 2017-18 Academic Year. The news release, in part,
    The State Board for Community Colleges, by a unanimous vote, established the 2017-2018 academic year in-state tuition and mandatory fees rate at $150.25 per credit hour. Beginning this fall, in-state students will pay an additional $4.00 per credit hour — an increase of 2.7 percent — which, means the cost of a typical three-hour class will increase by $12 and the cost of a full-time load of classes for the year will increase by $120.
  • RCC's Warsaw campus is home to STEM camp June 26-30. For middle schoolers in grades 6 through 8, camp activities will include coding, programming, and making a robotic puppet. More information is available from Kathy Vanlandingham, (804) 333-6780. Register. Space is limited.
